A Plethora of Possibilities with the Anker PowerExpand+ 563 11-in-1 USB-C Hub
With the release of so many new laptops focusing on the benefits of USB C ports, it’s no surprise to see the tech industry move towards this updated connectivity. An unfortunate downside to purchasing a new laptop can mean the added need for a connectable USB C to USB A hub.
Anker has absolutely spearheaded this movement with their phenomenal range of accessories aimed primarily at laptops such as the Apple MacBook pro and Air series.
But where the previous hubs have ‘walked’ offering a still impressive array of ports in one device the new PowerExpand+ 11-in-1 truly runs with such an incredible variety of peripheral options in one sleek, miniature device.
Upon unboxing the PowerExpand+ follows in the footsteps of its predecessors by loading up a host of abilities in one small unit. Those ports include a USB-C Power Delivery input port, an HDMI port, a DisplayPort, 1 USB-C data port, 3 USB-A ports, 1 Ethernet port, an AUX port, an SD card slot, and a microSD card slot. Pretty impressive when the size of the device itself is just 4.6 × 2.1. Portability is a key word here with the Expand’s stylish carrying case which comes enclosed with every box ensuring the hub remains clean and unscratched during travel.
Those transfer speeds are key to the hub so its reassuring to find that PowerExpand offers the kinds of speeds which would allow you to easily sync your full music collection (or to put it into statistics) it basically offers up to 5 Gbps data transfer. Something which is particularly impressive considering the hub itself doesn’t require any additional power source. We were particularly keen to put that to the test and were truly blown away to find that it quickly transferred across a full high-definition photo collection together in just a few seconds.
Another great benefit of the hub is the fact that it includes connectivity for ultra-high definition via the HDMI port. Something which is invaluable for gamers using devices such as the Steam Deck and looking to play these via a larger exterior screen. In fact, we’re told that media can be streamed in up to 4k at 60hz (an impressive jump from Anker’s 7-in-1 which streams at 4k @ 30hz. ) Truly something which makes the hub stand apart from its competitors.
But another feature we were truly taken by is the incredible feature of being able to charge and use devices simultaneously whilst using the other ports. Allowing users a maximum input of 100W – minus 15W for operation. We actually tried this
and were impressed we could find charge a MacBook with an additional 48w pass-through charge whilst the hub was able to still function with its other porting abilities.
Compatibility wise the Power Expand is accessible with a wide variety of tech including MacBook / MacBook Pro (2020 / 2019 / 2018 / 2017) MacBook Air (2020 / 2019 / 2018) XPS (13 inch / 15 inch), Spectre Folio, Yoga 720, iPad Pro (2020 / 2019 / 2018) ThinkPad X1, SF314, Pixelbook (2019 / 2018 / 2017.) So whatever your smart device needs you’re more than likely covered.
We loved the PowerExpand+ 11-in-1, amidst other USB C hubs, it stands miles apart with a host of abilities under one hood. Also for the cost alone, you’d be hard-pushed to find a peripheral of this quality at a fraction of the price.
